- Third-floor condo unit at 249 Chestnut Hill Ave. Unit 32, Brighton, MA. I currently own this unit and it is currently unoccupied as I'm preparing for renovations. Three water-related ceiling problems: 1) Bathroom (collapsed ceiling): In October, the ceiling is partially split and collapsing around the light fixture. The ceiling material is separated/sagging from the ceiling and it happened suddenly. Currently, the bathroom and apartment is unusable as a result of this right now so we moved out. 2) Bathroom (water staining on the ceiling above the shower): Water staining is visible on the ceiling above the shower and the ceiling has not collapsed. This is a separate area from item 1 but also concerning. 3) Kitchen, falling pieces of the ceiling. Ceiling paint and material are falling near an exposed heater water pipe. There is a hole with water staining around a radiator heating pipe. The pipe appears to run to a radiator in the unit above. There could be a leak from the unit above or between units in the shared space from the condo. I have contacted both the property manager and the owner/tenant above. The owner/tenant claims there are no visible leaks but stated there is condensation around the toilet bowl and that they hear dripping around the heater in their kitchen but can't spot the leak. The property manager recommended that I tear the ceiling down before it falls but that shouldn't be my responsibility/something I should be doing. There are no clear steps currently to determine exact source of leakage but it must be from the above unit and/or common area between floors.
